Play
Okay! So I went the play and I got thereby 7 and I stayed until the end of our play which was super funny by the way, but my mom got really angry and made me leave right after ours at like 10 or 10:30 so I wasn't able to take a picture with the cast. But! I hope you will accept the picture I took of the play

Shinedown
Shinedown came out with a new album last year, Amaryllis, which I've just recently started getting into since the I saw them in concert a couple weeks ago. My favorites songs on the album are Bully, I'll Follow You, and Amaryllis. But really, all of the songs are good. I think it sounds different than their previous albums, in a good way. I really like Brent Smith's (the lead singer) voice. And I also love the lyrics. Especially to Bully. Part of the chorus goes like this: "Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely". I just love that line. It's so true, most people will just think it's funny, it's a joke, they justify every mean thing they say to people as if it was a joke even if they actually meant it. But to depressed people it's not just a joke, it hurts more than the bully will ever think it did, and I think this song will reach out to kids and teenagers who are being bullied. And I think it's sending a really good message which is a reason I love it so much. I totally recommend this song and this album and this band, it's pretty amazing.
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
I thought this album was really really good. My favorite tracks were definitely the first and third, Angles and Teardrop. I like it's hip hop and electronic feel and it has a very unique sound and I really enjoy it. I also really like the bass in it, it's pretty cool, it gives it a nice beat. The ITunes visualizer looked pretty awesome with their songs too, it also kept me intrigued. I've never heard anything by Massive Attack before, so I don't know how their other albums are, but I'd like to find out, I thought this album was so good.

The Color Morale
I recently heard the song, Strange Comfort by The Color Morale on the radio and I looked them up when I got home, and I found that I really like this band. They're classified in the genre of Rock, I think they're pretty good. I would recommend it if you like bands sort of like Breaking Benjamin, Five Finger Death Punch, or Fit For a King. But yeah I really like it. It has some 'screamo' in it. But yeah I like it a lot it's really good. Strange Comfort it the song I know most by them and I like the lyrics to the song, it's about being lost in life and how you get used to being lost, how it's a "strange comfort". I'm really big on lyrics so usually if it doesn't have good lyrics I don't like it as much.
Wu-Tang
I didn't like Wu-Tang too much, I'm not really into rap/hip hop. I like A Tribe Called Quest better. Wu-Tang is kind of cool because the band has like 9 members right? I think that's cool because each member brings something new and different which I like, but if I had to choose between A Tribe Called Quest and Wu-Tang I would most definitely pick A Tribe Called Quest. I feel like Tribe is more I don't know kind of funk-y, or jazz-y and I guess I like that better.

Copyright Laws
I've recently re-watched RIP: A Remix Manifesto. It's such a great documentary dealing with copyright laws. I re-watched it because in my English class we're doing a project and we got to choose our topic over anything we're interested in and I decided I was interested in the Copyright Laws in the music industry. So, my project is over how major record labels, and major corporations such as Warner Chappell are restricting the people's creativity and freedom by heavily inhibiting Copyright Laws. Basically I'm going to be writing about my opinions on how the Copyright Laws need to be revised to give people the rights to make mash-ups, to use sampling, and to take from the public domain to create original pieces building off of the past without having to pay a huge sum of money. I'll also be talking about how the world is ruled by money and the human mind is run by making a profit. I'm really excited for this project and to object my opinion!
Nirvana - Nevermind
I love love love this album! It's such a good album. My favorites are Smells like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, and Lithium. My all time favorite song by Nirvana is Lithium. I absolutely love that song. It's sort of funny, I like how it says, "I'm so ugly, but that's okay 'cause are you, broke our mirrors." Haha, I just think that's such a funny, clever and awesome line. In my opinion it's a really legendary album made by Nirvana, I think if you asked people name 1 song by Nirvana they would probably say Smells Like Teen Spirit. This album was the crash between rock and mainstream which I find pretty cool. I think it's an amazing album and I would really like to have it on my IPod.

Rap
I feel like the genre of rap/hip hop is taking over my generation. Almost everyone I know listens to mostly rap. It seems to be a very popular genre, and personally, I don't really understand why. I do not like rap. Some of the old rap is good, but I feel like every rapper now just talks about smoking weed, doing drugs and having sex. I just don't enjoy. Most rap songs have no deeper meaning, at least no meaning that I can pick out. I know a lot of people could say the same thing about my music, my screamo, but I don't know, I just don't see why people like rap. In my opinion rap is going downhill. I mean it's going up in popularity but it's going down in good content. The one nice thing I do like about rap is the beat and bass. I love a good strong bass.
Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam is pretty good musically. I think the singer is pretty good and the instrumentals are pretty good. They're not really a band I would put on my IPod and listen to albums. My favorite song by them is probably one of the most "mainstream" of them, Evenflow. I think I first heard it on Guitar Hero, the video game. I know my mom used to be in love with them, but me, not so much. I thought the videos were funny, when one of the guys was being a monkey and jumping into the crowd, they seemed to put on a good performance.

Avalanche Tour
On Sunday I'm going to see Shinedown! It's called the Avalanche tour and it's featuring 6 other bands! It's at the Verizon Theater in Grand Praire, I'm really excited! The bands are: Shinedown, Papa Roach, Stone Sour, In This Moment, Hell Highwater, Escape the Fate, and Otherwise. The one I'm probably the most excited for In This Moment, they're one of my favorite bands at the moment and I think it'll be so awesome! My mom is coming with me and my sister, and she does not like this type of music, I think it'll be funny to see her reaction to it. I'm pretty excited for Papa Roach and Shinedown too, but I've never heard of Hell Highwater, Escape the Fate or Otherwise, but I'm assuming they're pretty good if they're touring with these other groups. The tickets were $35, which I think it's pretty cheap since there's going to be 7 bands preforming, so it's like $5 a band! But yeah I'm super excited for this concert, I think it'll be really cool!
Nirvana and Wilco Movies
I didn't really like either of these movies, I thought they were kind of boring (I'm not really a movie person), but out of the two, I liked the Wilco movie better. I liked it more because it was kind of funny, and I liked the people in it, and the story line was pretty cool. The Nirvana unplugged movie was just them playing most of the time and I didn't like it that much, and the band was so unorganized they were like what should play next? Hmm I don't know. Should we play this song as a band or should I do it alone? I just didn't enjoy it very much.

The Band Perry
The Band Perry is releasing a new album, which I think might be good! I've listened to one song that is sooo good, it's called Better Dig Two. It's basically about a woman who loves her husband so much that if he does first or if he falls in love with another woman that she'll kill herself. It's kind of morbid, I like it. I absolutely love Kimberly Perry's voice it's so beautiful and cool sounding. My favorite part is when she says :
"It won't be whiskey, it won't be meth
It'll be your name on my last breath
If divorce or death ever do us part,
The coroner will call it a broken heart"
The rhymes are so clever and they fit so perfectly! Talk about good song writing. I totally recommend this if you listen to country like Carrie Underwood or Lady Antebellum.

N.W.A and Beastie Boys
I did not like NWA. I don't really like rap or hip hop so it's not really my kind of music. I think it was funny how they cussed a lot, and I liked the lyrics when you read them, but I couldn't really understand what they were saying so I just have it. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good either. But I love the Beastie Boys. I don't know why I like them so much, they're rap-ish but I think they're funny and I enjoy listening to them. I can't figure out why. But my favorite song by then is probably most people's favorite, Fight For Your Right, I love it, it's funny!

The Downtown Fiction
I was exploring music on my pandora when I came across the band, The Downtown Fiction.
I've only heard one song and I've been meaning to look up more, but the song I know is called I Just Wanna Run. The Downtown Fiction is kind of a boy band and I usually do not like boy bands, but for some odd reason I really like this song. I guess I really like the melody of it. For me, it's one of those songs that gets stuck in your head really easily. The singers voice is kind of squeaky, like really high pitched I think after a while of listening to it, It would get really annoying. But for some reason I really like this song. I hope I don't get it stuck in your head, but if I do, don't get mad at me!

U2 video
I though the U2 video was kind of boring, I think I spaced out during most of it. But I do know that in the first part of the movie at the first concert they opened with a cover of helter skelter, which was okay, obviously not as good as The Beatles, but still pretty good. They also played the song that goes like, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, they played it at what looked kind of like a church and they had a choir song with them, I really liked that one, I thought they sang it really beautifully and the choir was awesome. Those were the only two parts I can really remember but those two parts were really good, so I guess if I watched the whole movie again then maybe it would be good.

Three Days Grace
I've recently started like Three Days Grace, I like their newer album, Transit of Venus. I heard the song Chalk Outline on the radio and I loved it, and everytime I hear it I like it more and more. I like most of the songs on the album, I think it's a really solid album. I like The High Road, Chalk Outline, Misery Loves Company, and Give In To Me. I really love Adam Gonteir's voice, I think it's pretty awesome and kind of (to me) sounds a little punky. I also think they have really good lyrics. For me lyrics mostly just make the song good. If it doesn't have good lyrics then I probably won't like it all that much. If you look up the lyrics to any of the songs I think you'll enjoy them. I think they're a really good band and can play pretty well (obviously not as well as The Beatles, but you can't compare everyone to their awesomeness). They're alternative, they kind of sound like Fall Out Boy or Seether. I really like it, I hope you do too :)

Paul Simon - Graceland
I actually really liked this album. I've never really heard anything by Paul Simon before except for what we've listened to in class and I really liked it. I liked the songs Graceland, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, You Can Call Me Al, and I think maybe Gumboots? I think that's the one that started off with just singing and no instruments. The lyrics were kind of strange, but pretty deep. The instrumentals were different too with the African beats and things. Overall I think it was a really good album and I would definitely listen to it again and again. It was a pretty good album considering that it went to #3 in the National Billboard Charts. It's kind of weird that this followed Hair Metal and was this popular, but it's definitely much better than Hair Metal.

Otep
I've recently found the band Otep, I really only know one song by them, but when I listened to part of the album on Itunes, I really liked it but I couldn't buy it because I didn't have enough money :( The one song I did buy is called Confrontation. I really like it. My favorite line of the song is:
"Its the rich man's war
But its the poor that fight
More capitalist crimes,
More enemies than allies"
It's kind of about the modern age, I think it totally speaks the truth and I like it. It's rock. It's pretty good if you like hardish rock, then I think you'd like it.

Hair Metal and Hip Hop
I kind of sort of like hair metal, only some of it. I don't like all the makeup and the hair and the outfits, it's all kind of over the top and stupid. I like Twisted Sister, some of Van Halen and the really catchy stuff I guess. I personally really like metal, and in my opinion if I heard some of this hair metal on the radio I probably wouldn't categorize it as metal. It's of, I don't know, Girly. I also don't like Hip Hop, it's not my thing. I like the beats of it, they all have really strong beats which I like, but I don't really like rap or anything because I feel like all it does is talk and I'm not really into that.

Evanescence
I'm pretty sure I've already posted about Evanescence but I really like this band, so I'm going to post about it again anyways. When I first started listening to Evanescence I really only liked a few of the most popular songs on their album Fallen, but now I really like mostly all of her stuff. One of my favorite songs is Call Me When You're Sober. I'm just so in love with her voice, like seriously her voice is freaking beautiful. I also really like the song Everybody's Fool, it reminds me of someone, who everyone seems to worship but only because they don't know who she really is. My favorite part of Everybody's Fool that describes this person the best is:
"look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
but now i know she
never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled"
It's just descibes her perfectly, and I know so many people know one person who everyone loves and thinks they're so perfect but you know they're really not, they're just fake. I like Evanescence because I guess I can really relate to a lot of their songs, so I guess I just feel like maybe I'm not so alone? I don't know, but seriously I think Evanescence is an amazing band and is maybe one of my favorites.

Elvis Costello and Disco
I really like Elvis Costello, I love his voice and the way he sings. I am one of those girls who likes the song Alison, not because I think it's sweet, because I know it's not, but I think it's just all around a really good song. I also like Welcome To The Working Week, Blame It On Cain, and Mystery Dance. I love how he works little like sexual things into his songs, it's kind of funny. Like how the Mystery Dance is really about two virgins becoming...not virgins, haha I think it's kind of amusing how he does that, and the beginning of Welcome To The Working Week.
Disco. I personally really don't like Disco, it's really annoying and repetitive and I don't know I just don't like it. I think it's kind of an interesting genre of music, and I can see how it was really popular in the 70s and everything but yeah it's not popular anymore, I actually don't know anyone who really likes Disco. And in class we were arguing on weather Disco and Daft Punk were the same, I honestly agree with Noah, I think there is a difference and I think Hip Hop and Rap aren't the same. I do agree that they came from the same origin, but I think they became two different things, that Rap is a way to deliver lines and Hip Hop is more the music and dancing part of it. I do think they all originated from the same things, but they morphed into different things. Although in general I don't like Disco, Daft Punk, Hip Hop or Rap.

Job For A Cowboy
Punk
Punk is such a huge, diverse genre of music. Personally I don't really even know what punk is, if someone were to show me a punk song and asked what genre of music do you think this is, I most likely would not say punk. Like Mr. A says it's not the sound but the mind set and intentions and sometimes you can't just get that from the one song. Patty Smith, Horses, for one, I did not think was Punk, I didn't really like it either personally I didn't think she was good, she was annoying and repetitive. I didn't really get a punk vibe from her. I think the Sex Pistols sound and look pretty Punk, especially in God Saved the Queen. I guess I don't really like Punk all that much because I didn't really like the Sex Pistols that much, or Talking Heads, or The Clash. My favorite of The Clash was Rock The Casbah. The Talking Heads were pretty crazy, in concert the singer was insane! His dancing was so funny and his clothes too, but Punk? I'm not too sure. Although, I do really like The Police! Every Breath You Take, Message In A Bottle, Roxanne, I really like all of those songs, and I also think they're really good musicians and I guess I can see it being Punk a little bit, The Police are pretty legendary I like them a lot.

Lady Antebellum
I actually really like Lady Antebellum, I like listening to her when I get into my country music phases. My step-sister is the one who got me started listening to her and the first song I started liking by her was I Run To You and it's still one of my favorites. My favorite part of the song is at the beginning of the song, the lyrics go:
"I run from hate,
I run from prejudice
I run from pessimists
But I run too late
I run my life
Or is it running me
Run from my past
I run too fast
Or too slow it seems
When lies become the truth
That's when I run to you"
Sometimes I kind of feel like that. Like I know I can control my life but the bad things that have happened in my life just kind of linger and sometimes I'm just trying to get away from it all. Although I don't have that 'special someone' to run to, but still I feel like this song applies and will apply to me throughout my life and that's why I really like this song.

Stevie Wonder and the Ramones
I love Stevie Wonder! He is so badass. He could play so many different instruments and he was blind! He has a cool voice, a nice singer, I definitely think he was sort of legendary. Although I didn't really like listening to his album that much because, I don't know I got bored with it after a while. I'm not really good at listening to albums, I don't have the attention span. But I still think Stevie Wonder is pretty awesome. And the Ramones! Personally I actually really like the Ramones, I know almost everyone in the class said it was horrible, repetitive and only their 3 year old selves may possibly like it, but it's catchy and it's fun to listen to. I guess one could say I'm 'childish' but whatever I think it's kind of fun. Yeah it gets a little annoying and repetitive after a while, but I think listening to a couple of songs every now and then may make you feel better inside! I used to hate Blitzkrieg Bop but now I kind of think it's alright, I wouldn't mind listening to it every now and again.

Jason Mraz
I only really know and like two of Jason Mraz's songs, I'm Yours and I Won't Give Up. Out of those two my favorite is I Won't Give Up, it's like the sweetest song. It's really soft and sounds like the lyrics really mean something to Jason Mraz. My favorite part of the song is when it says
"'Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We've got a lot to learn
God knows we're worth it
No, I won't give up"
I just love the way his voice sounds, he sings with a lot of meaning in his voice and I just really like it, sometimes it gives me chills!

Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Womack
I didn't really like either Curtis Mayfield or Bobby Womack. It's just not really my genre of music. I mean it was okay, it wasn't terrible or anything but it's just not really my thing. I thought both of them were pretty good singers. I found their songs kind of boring though, I had trouble paying attention to them most of the time, so I can't really judge too much. I probably, if I had the choice, wouldn't listen to them again.

The Pretty Reckless
The Pretty Reckless is a rock band with a girl singer! I'm kind of sort of obssessed with girl singers at the moment obviously, but I think it's really good. I came across it because I was just searching around at random stuff on Youtube, and I first listened to Make Me Want To Die, and I was like hey I enjoy this, so I looked up more songs. My favorite song is Kill Me, I LOVE it, I love how when it goes to the chorus and says: "And all the lost souls say, every day I wake up, everyday I wake up alone, Just kill me." I love the way her voice sounds kind of far awayish, I'm having trouble describing it, but I think it sounds really cool, but my favorite part, and I don't know why I like this part so much, but it gets stuck in my head all the time, she says "With a wink and a smile and a vile of meth, I took his hand and we walked through the shadow of death, then I tried to remember all the advice that my teacher told me" I just think it sounds so cool! I bought the whole Light Me Up album on Itunes and I basically like every song, Factory Girl, My Medicine, Zombie, Just Tonight, Goin' Down, I just love it all!
John Lennon and Paul Mccartney solo ablums
I thought both of their solo albums were pretty good, personally I think I liked John Lennon's album the best, one of my favorite songs ever is Imagine, I think it's an absolutely beautiful song. It's so sad that The Beatles split up though :( One of my least favorite songs on John Lennons, Imagine album was I Don't Want To Be A Soldier, Mama, I Don't Want To Die. It was such a long and boring song, I thought the song would never end it was so long. I would probably never listen to that song on my own time. I'm having a hard time remembering which Mccartney album we listened to, even though that was only a few hours ago, but I'm pretty sure I liked it, I mean I do love Paul! Overall I'm still in love with The Beatles, even them as individuals.

In This Moment
I recently found this new band, In This Moment, I heard the song Adrenalize playing on the radio and I thought hey, I kind of like this so I looked it up on Shazam and Boom! A new favorite artist appeared. The band is classified as metal, and like I said in an earlier blog, I have really gotten into the metal with a girl lead singer. And this band rocks! I totally recommend it! My favorite songs are Blood, Adrenalize and The Gun Show. For some reason I really like Blood, even though it doesn't really sing or anything I like the way she speaks and the words and things. When my mom heard me listening to this song in my room, she asked me if I had some unknown built up anger inside of me that makes me want to listen to music like this. Some of the lyrics are:
"I hate you for the sacrifices you made for me
I hate you for every time you ever bled for me
I hate you for the way you smile when you look at me
I hate you for never taking control of me
I hate you for always saving me from myself
I hate you for always choosing me and not someone else
I hate you for always pulling me back from the edge
I hate you for every good word you ever said"
For some reason I just think this song is so cool. Please listen to it and enjoy it like I do!

Joni Mitchell Blue Album
Overall, I think Joni Mitchell's Blue Album was pretty good. There were a few songs I didn't care too much for, but there were also a few songs that I really liked. I really liked, Little Green, and Carey.. I though her voice was just amazing, like I was told, it was her instrument. Not to mention, it's amazing that she used to have polio and she can still play the guitar and the piano. The definition of a strong woman. I hope to listen to more of her in the future. I enjoyed listening to her album.

The Nearly Deads
I was searching around on YouTube, and I came across the band The Nearly Deads, and I listened to a few of their songs and I really like it! I really like the songs Never Look Back and Fact & Friction. I just love her voice, I've really started liking rock bands with female vocals. And I really like the singers hair! Haha. You should definitely give these two songs a listen to and I hope you'll fall in love with this band too :)
Led Zepplin and Let It Be
I thought Led Zepplin was pretty good, although we were listening to it soo loud it gave me a headache, I might like it better at a little lower volume. And of course, Stairway To Heaven is EPIC. One of my favorite songs on the album. And the Beatles manage to do it again! Another great album, of course Let It Be is my favorite song on the album, but my close second is Across the Universe and Two Of Us. I just LOVE the Beatles so much! :)

Halestorm
Rip Remix Manifesto: Copyright Laws
Personally, I agree completely agree with the movie. I think the copyright laws are insane, I think there should be some copyright that restrict some things that protect your music, but I don't think it should restrict your ability to be creative to branch off and make new music like mash ups. I love mash ups and dubstep that branch off from old music, and I don't want that kind of music to go away just because some people want the money for it. I think it's unfair to the artists who are trying to be ceative with music. And the video even said the money doesn't go to the artists of the real song, it goes to the record label thing, which is completely unfair. This kind of sharing of music should not be restricted so much, it's a way to express yourself and be creative and get ideas across. All of these laws are just completely insane. Music wasn't started for money and power, it was started to spread ideas, feelings, emotions, and for fun. I hope this video spreads and we can make copyright laws fair, so that music can spread like wildfire! I loved the movie, and I definitely want to watch it again and show people. I also really like the band Girl Talk!

Make Up Blog #2: Sly and The Family Stone
I don't really remember them very much. I'm not sure if I liked them or not. I guess they weren't really memerable, plus it was last week.... They're kind of jazzy, I just looked up the song Everday People, I kind of like it though, I think I've heard the song before. It's kind of rock and kind of jazz, It's a good combination.
Make Up Blog #1 Five Finger Death Punch
A friend just recently introduced me to this band, Five Finger Death Punch and I have to say I'm sort of obsessed with them right now. I really like the album American Capitalist. I'm actually listening to the album right now... :) My favorites on the album are Coming Down, Remember Everything, Wicked Ways and 100 Ways to Hate. Coming Down is about suicide, I really like the video to the song, becuase it's about these two teenagers who feel like the world is against them and the one person basically saves them by showing they care about them, I don't know, it's cooler than it sounds.
I... hate... you...
For who you are
I hate you
And all you stand for
I don't care
Anymore
I gave you
100 chances
You gave me
A hundred ways to hate"
I like 100 Ways to Hate because it's just so I don't know...Honest, haha I can't explain it. Some of the lyrics are:
"I... hate... you...
That's an understatementI... hate... you...
For who you are
I hate you
And all you stand for
I don't care
Anymore
I gave you
100 chances
You gave me
A hundred ways to hate"
I don't know, I just really like that. I wish I could say that to someone I hate, but I guess that's kind of mean. I would recommend this band if you like bands like, Atreyu, Mudvayne, and Stone Sour.
