Three Days Grace

I've recently started like Three Days Grace, I like their newer album, Transit of Venus. I heard the song Chalk Outline on the radio and I loved it, and everytime I hear it I like it more and more. I like most of the songs on the album, I think it's a really solid album. I like The High Road, Chalk Outline, Misery Loves Company, and Give In To Me. I really love Adam Gonteir's voice, I think it's pretty awesome and kind of (to me) sounds a little punky. I also think they have really good lyrics. For me lyrics mostly just make the song good. If it doesn't have good lyrics then I probably won't like it all that much. If you look up the lyrics to any of the songs I think you'll enjoy them. I think they're a really good band and can play pretty well (obviously not as well as The Beatles, but you can't compare everyone to their awesomeness). They're alternative, they kind of sound like Fall Out Boy or Seether. I really like it, I hope you do too :)

Paul Simon - Graceland

I actually really liked this album. I've never really heard anything by Paul Simon before except for what we've listened to in class and I really liked it. I liked the songs Graceland, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, You Can Call Me Al, and I think maybe Gumboots? I think that's the one that started off with just singing and no instruments. The lyrics were kind of strange, but pretty deep. The instrumentals were different too with the African beats and things. Overall I think it was a really good album and I would definitely listen to it again and again. It was a pretty good album considering that it went to #3 in the National Billboard Charts. It's kind of weird that this followed Hair Metal and was this popular, but it's definitely much better than Hair Metal.

Otep

I've recently found the band Otep, I really only know one song by them, but when I listened to part of the album on Itunes, I really liked it but I couldn't buy it because I didn't have enough money :( The one song I did buy is called Confrontation. I really like it. My favorite line of the song is:

"Its the rich man's war
But its the poor that fight
More capitalist crimes,
More enemies than allies"

It's kind of about the modern age, I think it totally speaks the truth and I like it. It's rock. It's pretty good if you like hardish rock, then I think you'd like it.

Hair Metal and Hip Hop

I kind of sort of like hair metal, only some of it. I don't like all the makeup and the hair and the outfits, it's all kind of over the top and stupid. I like Twisted Sister, some of Van Halen and the really catchy stuff I guess. I personally really like metal, and in my opinion if I heard some of this hair metal on the radio I probably wouldn't categorize it as metal. It's of, I don't know, Girly. I also don't like Hip Hop, it's not my thing. I like the beats of it, they all have really strong beats which I like, but I don't really like rap or anything because I feel like all it does is talk and I'm not really into that.

Evanescence

I'm pretty sure I've already posted about Evanescence but I really like this band, so I'm going to post about it again anyways. When I first started listening to Evanescence I really only liked a few of the most popular songs on their album Fallen, but now I really like mostly all of her stuff. One of my favorite songs is Call Me When You're Sober. I'm just so in love with her voice, like seriously her voice is freaking beautiful. I also really like the song Everybody's Fool, it reminds me of someone, who everyone seems to worship but only because they don't know who she really is. My favorite part of Everybody's Fool that describes this person the best is:

"look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
but now i know she
never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled"

It's just descibes her perfectly, and I know so many people know one person who everyone loves and thinks they're so perfect but you know they're really not, they're just fake. I like Evanescence because I guess I can really relate to a lot of their songs, so I guess I just feel like maybe I'm not so alone? I don't know, but seriously I think Evanescence is an amazing band and is maybe one of my favorites.

Elvis Costello and Disco

I really like Elvis Costello, I love his voice and the way he sings. I am one of those girls who likes the song Alison, not because I think it's sweet, because I know it's not, but I think it's just all around a really good song. I also like Welcome To The Working Week, Blame It On Cain, and Mystery Dance. I love how he works little like sexual things into his songs, it's kind of funny. Like how the Mystery Dance is really about two virgins becoming...not virgins, haha I think it's kind of amusing how he does that, and the beginning of Welcome To The Working Week.

Disco. I personally really don't like Disco, it's really annoying and repetitive and I don't know I just don't like it. I think it's kind of an interesting genre of music, and I can see how it was really popular in the 70s and everything but yeah it's not popular anymore, I actually don't know anyone who really likes Disco. And in class we were arguing on weather Disco and Daft Punk were the same, I honestly agree with Noah, I think there is a difference and I think Hip Hop and Rap aren't the same. I do agree that they came from the same origin, but I think they became two different things, that Rap is  a way to deliver lines and Hip Hop is more the music and dancing part of it. I do think they all originated from the same things, but they morphed into different things. Although in general I don't like Disco, Daft Punk, Hip Hop or Rap.

Job For A Cowboy

A friend introduced me to the band Job For A Cowboy. If you don't like metal/screamo you will most definitely NOT like this band. But I love metal so I thought it was a share worthy band. I've been listening to it a lot lately and other bands like Job For A Cowboy like All Shall Perish, Whitechapel and Suicide Silence. Doom is the album I like the most. One thing that's kind of weird about the band is it makes the pig squeels a lot and I don't know I like it but it's strange to me. Entombment of a Machine is a pretty good song, and so is The Rising Tide. I totally recommend this band if you like screamo and metal! A lot of people ask me why I like this kind of music. And to be completely honest, I have no idea. My sister and my dad and my two step brothers like this music so it could be that i've just grown up around it. But I dont know maybe I have built up anger and it helps me get it out, for me its kind of calming, sometimes I feel like the music can scream for me when I don't the voice to. But I don't know I just really enjoy listening to it, kind of a strange concept to a lot of people but oh well I like it and that's all that matters.

Punk

Punk is such a huge, diverse genre of music. Personally I don't really even know what punk is, if someone were to show me a punk song and asked what genre of music do you think this is, I most likely would not say punk. Like Mr. A says it's not the sound but the mind set and intentions and sometimes you can't just get that from the one song. Patty Smith, Horses, for one, I did not think was Punk, I didn't really like it either personally I didn't think she was good, she was annoying and repetitive. I didn't really get a punk vibe from her. I think the Sex Pistols sound and look pretty Punk, especially in God Saved the Queen. I guess I don't really like Punk all that much because I didn't really like the Sex Pistols that much, or Talking Heads, or The Clash. My favorite of The Clash was Rock The Casbah. The Talking Heads were pretty crazy, in concert the singer was insane! His dancing was so funny and his clothes too, but Punk? I'm not too sure. Although, I do really like The Police! Every Breath You Take, Message In A Bottle, Roxanne, I really like all of those songs, and I also think they're really good musicians and I guess I can see it being Punk a little bit, The Police are pretty legendary I like them a lot.
